Top global PC makers, excluding Hewlett-Packard, witnessed a double-digit growth in their PC sales in the Indian market in Q2-2011. Four brands, Acer, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, controlled half of the total Indian PC market sales (50.4%) in Q2-2011. Dell retained the top slot with 17% market share in PC sales in India. HP India lost its No 2 position to Acer India as the latter captured 12% market share with strong success in its commercial PC sales.
“This growth was primarily driven by the mobile PC market which grew by 17% year on year in Q2-2011,” says Vishal Tripathi, principal research analyst at Gartner. “Economic factors such as rising interest rates and high inflation resulted in slower consumer demand. With the recent hikes in commodity pricing, the cause of concern continues to exist. However, we expect the Indian PC market to perform better in the coming quarter due to the festive season.”
